Movie Review: Magic Mike

I know this review is a tad late. I cannot believe how long it took me to get to the theater to see this movie. FOR SHAME. My review in two words: LOVED IT. Did I love every single thing about it? Not really. But the things that I loved, I loved enough that the parts I cared less for didn’t matter. Could have done without Adam (Alex Pettyfer) feeling up Ken’s (Matt Bomer) wife’s boobs. Didn’t really get the point of that. Cody Horn who played Adam’s sister Brooke is a pretty terrible actress and I still cannot figure out what Channing Tatum’s Mike saw in her character. Adam was an obnoxious douche but I understood how his terrible choices moved the plot. Some of the dialogue was a bit iffy but I also loved the kind of real feel that it gave to the movie. The other strippers were, of course, beautiful and fun to watch. Really just eye candy and quick laughs. Matthew McConaughey as Dallas was entertainingly smarmy and there was a darkness about the entire thing that was unexpected but interesting.

Getting down to business though, I would have paid 3 times as much to watch a condensed film of Channing Tatum doing his thing on that stage. Holy shit. I gasped, I giggled, I had to fan myself quite a lot. The man can move. Just thinking back to it makes me weak in the knees all over again. The rest of the story was really just gravy and I never went into the theater expecting an Oscar worthy narrative. I honestly feel I got exactly what I wanted from the movie and if you take into consideration how amazing the dancing really was, maybe even a bit more. I’d see it again. In a heartbeat. I may not wear a sweater next time though. I stayed plenty warm without it.

Step Up is enjoying a resurgence in viewership after Magic Mike. I mean, Tatum is a GENIUS for getting this movie made. Just a new twist on fun summer movie going experiences. I can’t believe I found a hoodie and sweatpants so hot!

  3. I have to agree with watching Tatum. I guess it made the movie worth sitting through. I have to admit that I was dissapointed in the movie or lack there of, but I shouldn’t have expected much considering the theme! lol

  4. brooke and adam are not bad actors!!

  5. When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time

Is there any way you can remove me from that service? Thanks a lot!

    • I can try deleting your original comment and see if that helps? Otherwise, I don’t know. Is there an option on the emails with the comment notification? What was the original post you commented on?

I didn’t think it was possible for Channing Tantum to be in a worse movie than “Step it up”. I was wrong. Totally horrendous movie! Matt Bomber was completely wasted! Ladies, you could rent a porn movie if you want to see guys without clothes gyrating around. This movie had very limited plot or entertainment value and I am clueless as to why so many women call it a great movie. Standards have really sunk to a new low! However, I will admit that Matthew McConaughey was entertaining because he was obviously having a blast in the film.
