I know this review is a tad late. I cannot believe how long it took me to get to the theater to see this movie. FOR SHAME. My review in two words: LOVED IT. Did I love every single thing about it? Not really. But the things that I loved, I loved enough that the parts I cared less for didn’t matter. Could have done without Adam (Alex Pettyfer) feeling up Ken’s (Matt Bomer) wife’s boobs. Didn’t really get the point of that. Cody Horn who played Adam’s sister Brooke is a pretty terrible actress and I still cannot figure out what Channing Tatum’s Mike saw in her character. Adam was an obnoxious douche but I understood how his terrible choices moved the plot. Some of the dialogue was a bit iffy but I also loved the kind of real feel that it gave to the movie. The other strippers were, of course, beautiful and fun to watch. Really just eye candy and quick laughs. Matthew McConaughey as Dallas was entertainingly smarmy and there was a darkness about the entire thing that was unexpected but interesting.
Getting down to business though, I would have paid 3 times as much to watch a condensed film of Channing Tatum doing his thing on that stage. Holy shit. I gasped, I giggled, I had to fan myself quite a lot. The man can move. Just thinking back to it makes me weak in the knees all over again. The rest of the story was really just gravy and I never went into the theater expecting an Oscar worthy narrative. I honestly feel I got exactly what I wanted from the movie and if you take into consideration how amazing the dancing really was, maybe even a bit more. I’d see it again. In a heartbeat. I may not wear a sweater next time though. I stayed plenty warm without it.
