All Joshed Out

So a minute or so ago I was watching TV with the husband and saw a preview for a new movie starring Josh Hutcherson and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. The movie, called “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” is a sequel to 2008’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” starring Brendan Fraser and a much younger Josh. My husband and I actually rather enjoyed the first Journey movie. It was visually stunning and I’ve always liked Brendan. This new one doesn’t look terrible either (see the TV spot below) but it does have me worried.

“Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” looks like a kiddie movie. Why is this a problem? Seven weeks after “The Mysterious Island” opens, Josh Hutcherson will appear in a movie I have been anticipating for YEARS.

Yes. Years.

Since reading The Hunger Games in the fall of 2008 I have dreamed of seeing it on the big screen. On March 23rd my dreams will become reality when Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen enters the Games with Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta Mellark.

The casting of Josh Hutcherson as the romantic lead created quite the maelstrom of internet fury when it was announced last year. Big fans of the book are still wondering if he can pull it off. I really haven’t worried about it until now. He’s a talented young actor with a great face.

But can starring in a “kiddie movie” just weeks before his leading man debut (in what could be a trilogy of movies following in the financial footsteps of Twilight) be the very best idea? Is there a chance that this movie, with The Rock riding a giant bumble bee, diminish some of the masculine courage needed to pull off the perfect Peeta?

There is a good chance I am worrying about this for no reason. Maybe it will be fine. What do you guys think? Excited to see Josh as Peeta regardless? Not at all convinced he can pull it off? Like me, questioning the timing of these two movies?

Check out the trailers for both below and then sound off in the comments.
